Disability & mobility

Six elevators. One mall entrance you actually need.

Tysons (formerly Tysons Corner) is the Silver Line’s mall station. Trust the elevators, then plan the pedestrian bridges and the street routes as separate routes outside.

Bridge

Raised walkway toward Tysons Corner Center

This is the path the mall maps suggest. Before you leave the platform, check which set of elevators still reaches the bridge. Street-level detours seem short from inside the station, but they are not.

Street

Street-level route · longer trip outside

Fine if that is where you’re going. Wrong if you expected Tysons station to put you at the mall entrance without another trip outside.

Best when the bridge route is closed

An elevated Silver Line station can be fully “accessible” and still leave you with a long route outside to the mall.

If the Tysons elevators are out, Greensboro or McLean may still get you to a mall or office entrance. Compare the bridges outside, not just the station names. Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) elevator-outage shuttle: 202-962-1825 · TTY 202-638-3780.

What the trip actually feels like

Three steps: the elevator, the mezzanine, the mall.

  1. Silver Line train at Tysons station

    01

    The station has several levels

Six elevators serve an elevated station. When the mall still needs a bridge crossing afterward, an outage is not a small delay.

  2. Inside Tysons Corner Center from the food court

    02

Choices on the mezzanine add up

Pick the path that still leads to your mall entrance. The wrong mezzanine elevator means a long detour outside.

  3. Roof over the elevated Tysons station

    03

The mall has its own access information

Elevators and store entrances inside the mall are on the mall’s page. Metro only gets you to the edge of the station.

Why this stop feels different

  3. MallBridges · street entrances
  4. Today6 elevators · 8 escalators

Tysons is honest that the mall is not inside the station. The bridges are part of the trip.

The station sits above a shopping area built for cars, with walkways added later. That is why “take Metro to Tysons” can still fail after a perfect elevator ride.

Keep the parts separate: Metro for the station elevators, the bridges for the trip outside, and the mall for the elevators inside.

Before you go

Four things to check before you go.

  1. Check the map

Six elevators matter here. An outage can leave you stuck inside the station before you reach the mall.

  2. Pick your route to the mall

Choose the bridge or the street-level route before you leave the platform.

  3. Confirm the mall entrance

Tysons Corner Center entrances are not interchangeable after a long bridge crossing. Pick the entrance that matches your path.

  4. Verify mall access

Elevators inside are on the mall’s page. Metro elevator status is on our map.
