Privacy Policy
Effective September 25, 2026
No accounts. Near me uses your browser’s location only after you ask, on that device. My station stays on your device. Visit counts are not your Near me location. No payments.
1. What this policy covers
This policy describes what “Is the elevator working?” does with information when you use the site. It does not describe the privacy practices of WMATA, the MBTA, BART, CTA, SEPTA, TriMet, or of a page you open after you leave this site.
Practices can change. When they do, this page changes with them. The date above is the version in effect. Using the site after that date means this version applies.
2. Near me
Near me uses your browser’s location only after you ask for it. The coordinates are used on that device to identify a nearby station and, if needed, to open the matching city. They are not sent with the status request.
If Near me switches you from one city to another, the coordinates may be written to session storage on your device for that handoff, then removed. That storage stays in the browser. The site may also keep a return path in session storage so a doc page can send you back to the city you were viewing. That path stays in the browser as well.
3. My station
Pin as my station saves a station id for that city in local storage on your device so the map can open it first next time. It is not sent to our servers with the status request. Unpin removes it. Clearing site data in the browser removes it too.
4. Accounts
Checking a station does not require an account. The map does not ask for your name, email address, or telephone number. A later note, report, or partnership message may ask for a way to reply. If it does, this page will say so.
5. Hosting
Like any website, the host may record an ordinary request: an IP address, a time, a user agent, and the page requested. We do not sell personal data. Refreshing a city reloads our shared status snapshot. It does not ask the transit agency again, and it does not tell them where you are.
The map's background tiles load from OpenFreeMap. Their servers see the same kind of ordinary request from your browser, including which part of the map is on screen. If Near me moves the map to you, the tiles for that area are what they see.
6. Analytics and cookies
We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics — which pages are opened, and the site that referred you — so we can see whether the site is used. That count is not your Near me location. We do not add a separate advertising or marketing cookie layer from us. Your browser may still send ordinary technical data to the host as described above.
7. Third-party sites
Links to official agency elevator or status pages, and other outbound links on this site, open pages we do not control. Those sites have their own privacy policies and cookie practices.
8. Support
This site does not take tips or payments today. If that changes, this section will say which service handles the payment and what we can see.
9. Children’s privacy
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes
We may update this page. The date at the top changes when we do. We do not promise that today’s practices will stay the same.
11. Contact
