Terms of Use
Effective September 27, 2026
Welcome to “Is the elevator working?” (the “Site”), run by Sunday Robbo. By accessing or using this Site, you indicate that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms of Use.
1. The Site and non-affiliation
This Site is an independent project. It is not a transit agency. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or associated with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART), the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), TriMet, or any other transit authority. It is an unofficial site, and the views expressed on it are not those of any agency. Names and marks of those agencies remain their property, and this Site does not use their logos.
2. Status information and data accuracy
Station status is taken from public agency feeds and is provided strictly on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Because stations change quickly, the data may be delayed, incomplete, or incorrect. An elevator or escalator may fail after you look. A reported outage may already have cleared.
BART does not publish escalator-outage data to this Site. The absence of an escalator notice for BART is not a representation that every escalator is working.
The Chicago Transit Authority publishes an elevator outage, not a count of elevators at the station. That mark is not a claim that every elevator is out, or that a counted number remain. CTA does not publish a clean escalator-outage feed to this Site. The absence of an escalator notice is not a representation that every escalator is working.
SEPTA publishes an elevator outage, not a count of elevators at the station. That mark is not a claim that every elevator is out, or that a counted number remain. SEPTA says the elevator list is updated daily. This map is the Market-Frankford Line and the Broad Street Line, including the Broad-Ridge Spur. It is not a representation about Regional Rail, the Norristown High Speed Line, or escalators.
TriMet publishes elevator outages on its elevator status page, not a count of elevators at each MAX station. That mark is not a claim that every elevator is out, or that a counted number remain. TriMet lists elevators at a short set of stations and park-and-rides. This map is MAX Blue, Red, Green, Yellow, and Orange. It is not a representation about Streetcar, WES, or escalators.
This Site does not operate trains, elevators, or escalators. It is not a substitute for official status or for staff at the station.
Research reports on this Site, such as the rail access ranking, are our own analysis of public agency data as of the date each report gives. They may contain errors, and they are not any agency's official figures.
3. Official sources
Where this Site and an official agency disagree, the agency’s own notice controls.
WMATA Transit information provided on this site is subject to change without notice. For the most current information, please click here for WMATA's official status page.
For the MBTA, see the official elevator page. For BART, see the official elevator page. For the CTA, see the official elevator page. For SEPTA, see the official elevator page. For TriMet, see the official elevator page.
4. Content and ownership
The Site's design, text, and code belong to Sunday Robbo. Transit status and station data belong to the agencies that publish them. MBTA data is provided by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
Photos on the access trip pages come from Wikimedia Commons. They remain the work of their photographers and are used under the licenses listed on the Photo credits page.
The data download for each research report is released under CC BY 4.0. You may reuse it, including commercially, if you credit “Is the elevator working?” and link to the report. The agency data it summarizes stays under each agency's own terms.
5. Sharing and citing
You may quote findings and short passages from this Site, including its research reports, if you credit “Is the elevator working?” and link to the page you quote.
You may share screenshots of the live maps and station pages, including in news and on social media, with the same credit. The map background comes from OpenStreetMap, so keep “© OpenStreetMap contributors” with any image that shows the map.
Republishing an access trip page, or a large part of one, needs our permission first. Ask at editors at istheelevatorworking dot com.
Photos keep their own licenses, listed on the Photo credits page. Please don't present this Site as an official agency source.
6. Your use and assumption of risk
You use this Site at your own risk. This Site is not intended for use in emergencies or life-safety routing. If you cannot afford to be wrong about an accessible route, you must confirm the condition at the station and directly with the responsible agency before you go.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Site operators provide the Site “as is” and disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. They are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or decisions made in reliance on this Site, including but not limited to a missed trip, a delay, an inaccessible entrance, physical inconvenience, or financial losses. Where a limit is allowed, total liability to you will not exceed the amount you have paid to this Site. If you have not paid, that limit is zero.
7. Voluntary contributions
A payment through a tipping service, such as Ko-fi, is a voluntary contribution. It is not a purchase of goods or services, and it does not buy guaranteed uptime, dedicated support, or a reply. A tip is not a contact form. Refunds and card disputes, if any, are handled by that service and by the card issuer, not by this Site.
8. Acceptable use
You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes. You may not use scrapers, bots, or excessive requests that burden or disrupt the Site or the agency feeds it reads.
9. Disputes
To the extent permitted by applicable law, any dispute arising out of your use of the Site must be brought on an individual basis only. You waive any right to bring, join, or participate in a class, consolidated, or representative action against the operators of this Site. These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Site operators from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
11. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the rest of these Terms will remain in full force and effect.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms of Use. The date at the top changes when we do. The posted version is the one in effect.
